A living "fossil"

A coelacanth.

This fish is called a Coelacanth, and it was thought to be extinct.  They are found off the coast of South and East Africa, and they were thought to have become extinct over 65 million years ago.  They have been found in fossils that date back some 300 million years. This is one of my favorite living fossils.

A possible habitable planet!!!!! Cool!

This artist's concept depicts Kepler-62f, a super-Earth-size planet in the habitable zone of a star smaller and cooler than the sun, located about 1,200 light-years from Earth in the constellation Lyra.
This is Kepler-62f, a planet that could quite possible have the attributes of a habitable planet.  It is many light years away, so I do not see us exploring it any time soon.

The rest of this week...

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow, we will be reviewing area and circumference of a circle, graphs and charts, and proportions.  We will also be playing math games as well.  We will also be playing Grid Scrabble with the giant life-sized tiles and a spelling word short write. As always, these writings are interesting and quite funny.  Be ready to present your Southwest Asia/North Africa projects tomorrow in class; I know that they are looking good, and that y'all are doing a great job on them.  Keep up the good work.

You guys are STAAR ready, but we will continue to practice and review until Tuesday and Wednesday.  You guys and girls are going to do very well, I have all the faith in you.

The Laser Quest Field trip and the End of Year field trip are still on.  We are going to have a lot of fun.

Check out the Bald Eagles

Hello everyone!

All of you that get on here should go onto the Bald Eagle Link and view the live footage of a pair of Bald Eagles in Southwest Florida.  My mom gave me this link which she got from my sister; it is really cool!! Being from Texas, I have never seen a Bald Eagle, so this is a real treat, even though it is a virtual view.

Tardigrades ( You HAVE to see this!!!)

Yes.....this creature is real.....it is microscopic, only reaching a maximum length of 2 mm. These things can survive in the vacuum of space, totally exposed to the solar and cosmic radiation.  They can also hibernate for 10 years without food or water ( this is no joke).  They can survive at temperatures just above absolute zero.  It makes you wonder where they came from. They have been given the nickname of "water bears."
