Oar Fish
This is a picture of an oarfish. They are real sea creatures that live out in the pelagic zone which is the open deep oceans of the world. They are rarely seen except when they are near death and float onto a beach. These fish creatures can reach lengths of 30 feet or more and were probably where sailors came up with the tales of seeing sea monsters. We do not know that much about them as far as their habits but that they are part of a small family of ocean fish.

Unit Rate
Some of next week's activities
Class,
Next week in math we will delve further into Ratios and look at Unit Rate and proportions. If you know how to compute equivalent fractions, this part of Unit 4 will be easy for you and the practice assignments will be a breeze. I am very proud of all of you this last Nine Weeks, because you all did, as a whole pretty well in math. Keep up the good work guys!!!!! I will see how well you all pick up Unit 4 and, if I see that you are jamming through it, we will wrap up this unit, test, and move on to Units 5(Algebraic Expressions) and 6(Angles and Polygons).
On Monday, we will be finishing up on our Narnia mural; this will be the first project grade on the Second Nine Weeks.
In Social Studies we will continue our study of Europe, multiculturalism in Europe and government, economy of Europe. We will probably be testing the end of this week, or early next week.
In Science, we will be doing our experiment with the balloon and the peroxide.

Tomorrow at a glance (October 25, 2013)
Class,
Tomorrow, we will be jumping into Unit 4 (Ratios and Proportions). We will be looking at some notes and doing some practice writing ratios and drilling the fact that order matters when writing ratios. I will giving you guys your results from the test yesterday.
We will be having a Spelling test tomorrow as well, so be ready for it. It will be the terms from Chapter 17 of the book. This is going to be more than just a shadow box. We are going to build Narnia, and I am going to assign each of you four characters from the book to draw, color, and cut out. This will be a class project, and the finished product will be a class project grade. This is going to be lots of fun, so bring your creativity with you tomorrow!
We will also be doing a science experiment in class tomorrow involving a potato, hydrogen peroxide, and a balloon. We will all witness a chemical change in the hydrogen peroxide into oxygen bubbles.
I am looking forward to tomorrow guys!!

Tomorrow at a glance (October 24, 2013)
Class,
Tomorrow, we will be having an exam in Unit 3 for math. Be sure to bring your review sheets in to class for some extra points of the exam. The exam will be 20 questions and some bonus questions in the back. I encourage you always to at least attempt the bonus page. If you look over the review, you will be ready for the exam and should do well. I will be giving a short 5-10 minute questions and answers session before testing, so bring your last minute questions if you are not 100% sure about something.
We will also be having The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Exam as well tomorrow. The test will be short answer and open-ended questions......not multiple choice. Bring your thinking caps tomorrow.
We will be covering the European Union tomorrow in Social Studies and be watching a few You tubes over the EU. We will also be looking at compounds and having a lab activity involving hydrogen peroxide and a balloon along with a potato. This lab will be fun!!
See everyone tomorrow!

The Noun Mobiles
Class,
The noun mobiles look absolutely great. They are nicely hung throughout the classroom, and I will be displaying the pictures of them on the blog. Tomorrow, we will be doing verb mobiles to hang up. Remember class, all the things we create and build serve as tools in class and should be used. The whole classroom is a toolbox that I encourage all of you to use every single day.

Tentative field trip (October 29, 2013)
Class,
On Tuesday, October 29, 2013, we will be traveling to HEB for a math field trip. We will be half way through Unit 4 which involves ratios and proportions. The field trip will involve studying ratios and proportions in a real life setting. We will leave at 8:30 in the morning and will return before lunch at Noon. I will be passing out permission slips hopefully by tomorrow or Friday and hope to get them back by next Wednesday, the 23rd.

Tomorrow at a glance (October 17, 2013)
Class,
Tomorrow, we will be looking at adding and subtracting mixed numbers and fractions again but in a different way. We will be doing application, real world problems involving them, and we will be doing this through next Tuesday (October 22).
We will also be reading Chapter 16 of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and we will be doing chapter sketches for that chapter. We will be reading the last chapter of the book next Monday.
We will also be looking at a Youtube video over limited and unlimited governments and their differences, so we will be taking some short notes. We will also be drawing a picture of whet a dictator looks like to you, so bring your creative drawing fingers.

Ladies and gentlemen,
We are now in Unit 3 in Math, and we are looking at adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Please look at the prior videos on these subjects and be prepared to do some more practice with adding fractions with like and unlike denominators. Also look at the videos I have here, on the blog, about finding equivalent fractions and LCM as they will be helpful when finding common denominators.
