This article discusses minerals found in Antarctica. It has been protected under treaties for non-mining through the year 2041. Do you think anyone should ever be allowed to drill or mine in Antarctica seeing what humans have done to wildlife landscape in the past? What are your thoughts?

Next Week at a glance (November 18-22, 2013)

          This week will be the last week before the Thanksgiving Holidays, and we will be quite busy. In math, we will be be continuing our study of coordinate plane and discussing Algebraic Tables. I will be letting you guys do some really cool fun grids since we know how to grid now. If you guys know how to find consistent equivalent ratios, algebraic tables and writing the expressions should be a breeze, and just about the entire class did really well on the last exam.
          In English, we will be reading Chapters 8 - 10 in the 39 Clues Book. I am postponing the book exam until we come back from Thanksgiving and make the exam cover Chapters 1 - 10, and I will probably give that exam the Tuesday we come back (December 3, 2013). I will also be giving the Unit 2 ELA Exam on that Friday we come ( December 5, 2013), so we will have two exams for English that week.
          In Social Studies, we will continue to look at Russia, some of its culture and history, as well as the economy. We will also continue our exploration of Energy Resources. 

Tenochtitlan: The impossible city

This is an awsome video about the Aztecs, their history, and culture. We are starting Mesoanerica today, and I wanted to look at some of the history and people that inhabited this region before European exploration. If you did not know about the Aztecs, this is a great video.

Facts about Atolls

This video gives you some facts about atolls along with some of the wildlife that inhabit them. These go along perfectly with the units we are in in Science and Social Studies.

Barrier Islands of Texas

This is an example of a barrier island, and they are an ecosystem in themselves with many different plant and animal species that inhabit them.

Continental Islands and inhabitants

This video talks about three of the largest continental islands of the world along with a few endangered species that inhabit them. This mixes Social Studies(Geography) with science( Life Science/Biology).

The Great Barrier Reef

This is a great video that discusses an entire ecosystem just below the waters off the coast of Eastern Australia.

This week...(04/22 to 04/26)

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow, we will be taking the Math section of the STAAR exam, so go home and get a good night sleep, and eat a really good breakfast in the morning.  Most importantly.......do not get stressed.......it's only a test.  Relax and do your best...I know you can do it!!
Wednesday, we will be taking the STAAR Reading section of the exam.  Ladies and gentlemen, use the testing strategies you have learned and take your time on the test. 

When we come back on Thursday, we will be having Fast on Facts again and some math games as well as a fun grid ( It will be Sonic the Hedgehog).  We will also be starting the book, Time Riders, so get prepared to travel through time. We will also be presenting our Southwest Asia projects for Social Studies and doing an activity for plate tectonics.

Friday is a holiday......YIPEE!!!!!!!!!
